Rules and Regulations
Naturaid Impossible is a Bikepacking tour, so the Bikepacking movement’s traditional guidelines and code of honour apply.
The rules for Naturaid Impossible are quite simple. The event is all about fun, a great experience and honourable and fair participation. If you can’t manage the 1100 km route without any outside assistance, you’d be better off staying at home.
The Naturaid Impossible is a leisure / tourist excursion in line with Italy Traffic Laws
Self-Supported Riding
Riders must complete the entire route from the start in Capoterra (Cagliari), to Olbia, to the finish in Capoterra (Cagliari) alone and without any outside assistance. E-Bikes or bikes with assisted drive systems of any kind are not permitted. Swapping bikes along the route is only allowed in exceptional circumstances and with prior consent from the organisers. Riders take sole responsibility for food stops, other breaks and recuperation, overnight accommodation and lodgings and any repairs.
The use of public services and organisations available to any bike rider is absolutely permitted. This includes, for example, bike shops, public water fountains, restaurants, snack bars, hotels, motels, B&Bs, kiosks, shops and bakeries.
Assistance and support such as food, lodgings or spare parts provided by accompanying friends or family members is not allowed. Accompanying helpers or vehicles are not permitted on any part of the route. Spectators are permitted on the route as long as they provide no assistance of any kind to the riders. Friends or colleagues may ride alongside a participant for a maximum of 10 km, as long as they provide no assistance of any kind or allow a participant to ride in their slipstream.
During the Naturaid Impossible participants may not visit friends or family. This rule is in place to ensure fairness to all taking part.
Organising further collection points along the route is forbidden.
The Route
Naturaid Impossible will provide participants with GPS Datas (GPX File) of the entire route a few days before the start.
Every rider must complete the route from start to finish as set down on the map. Short-cuts or alterations to the route are not permitted.
The control centre may issue notice of route diversions or changes via SMS, telephone calls or email if road works, adverse weather etc require them.
Every rider must adhere to the Italy Traffic Laws in force on any given section of the route. Appropriate riding etiquette should be observed with other road / path users such as cars, tractors, forest maintenance vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and walkers. Riding at night requires a suitable lighting system.
Anyone leaving the route for an overnight stop, a visit to a bike mechanic etc must rejoin it at exactly the same point to recommence the ride correctly.
All participants are entirely responsible for themselves and ride at their own risk. The Italy Traffic Laws must be upheld at all times. Naturaid Impossible accepts no liability !
Naturaid Impossible is not a bike race in the traditional sense. Technically it is a collective training ride or an excursion. No podium presentations and no prizes or prize money.
All participants must carry an activated SPOT Tracker from the start to the finish. This is for safety and to ensure they follow the route exactly. See ‘Tracking’ on our homepage.
All riders must carry a mobile phone. This must be switched on at all times to ensure they can be contacted when necessary by the Control Centre.
Every rider must contact the Control Centre at least once a day by SMS / Text message. These messages will be made public on the homepage.
Naturaid Impossible can carry out checks and monitor progress of riders along the route.
Other Rules
Riding in other participants’ slipstreams (drafting) is not permitted.
Providing First Aid in the event of an accident is obligatory. Assisting other participants with technical problems is expected as part of the event’s code of honour.
